Famous National Parks of Africa
The African continent is home to some of the most magnificent and popular National Parks in the world. Responding to the increasing threat to the diverse wildlife of Africa, Government established National Parks and Reserves in many countries to protect its wildlife and now these Parks are major tourist attractions.
Some of the famous National Parks in Africa are listed below-
Kruger National Park-
Kruger National Park is the largest Game Reserve in South Africa. The tourists will get an opportunity to see the big 5 and other animals in this park.
This park is also home to the endangered African wild dog. There are around 517 species of birds found here.
There are many private game reserves and exclusive luxury game lodges available for visitors.
Amboseli National Park-
Amboseli National Park in Kenya is one of the most visited safari parks in Africa. Amboseli also provides a perfect view of the highest mountain of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. This park gives an opportunity to see the giant African Elephants, the endangered Black Rhinos, buffalo, hyena, wildebeest, zebra and many others. The best time to visit Amboseli is in the months of January and February.
Masai Mara-
Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya is another famous game reserves in Africa, popular for the annual migration of wildebeest and zebras from the Serengeti plains. Some other animals found here include elephants, giraffe, gazelle, ostrich and antelope. Around 450 species of birds are also found here. Tourists also get a glimpse of Masai people and Masai culture. The best time to visit is from July to September, when the annual wildebeest migration starts.
Etosha National Park-
Etosha National Park in Namibia was declared a National Park in 1907 and is home to 114 mammal and 340 bird species. Visitors can expect to see elephants, giraffes, zebras and lions. The best time to visit is from May to September which are the cooler months in Namibia. There are three rest camps that provide good tourist facilities- Namutoni, Halali and Okaukuijo.
Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park-
Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park is on the border of South Africa and Botswana. The two prominent species of this park are Suricate and Ground Squirrel. Biggest attraction is seeing the predators like cheetah, leopard, spotted hyena and the lion.
